Shopping is something that most of us do on a regular basis. We go to the local store, supermarket or online to buy the things we need or want.
Something that I constantly frustrate myself (and Claire) with when shopping is my inability to remember to write a list beforehand..! Pretty much every time, I forget something vital which means needing to pop back out to do the classic local top-up (is it me or does it always come to £30 no matter what you buy..?!) or going without a major component for that night's dinner.
And just like with shopping, when it comes to marketing your business, it's important to have a plan or a 'shopping list' so to speak.
Here are a few reasons why you should plan your marketing strategy in a similar way and why you wouldn't want to go marketing without a plan.
1. You might forget something important
Just like with shopping, if you don't have a list, you might forget to buy something important that you needed. Similarly, if you don't have a marketing plan, you might forget to include an important aspect of your marketing campaign, such as a specific target audience or a certain type of content.
2. You might spend more than you intended
If you go shopping without a list, you might end up buying things that you don't really need or spending more money than you intended. Similarly, if you don't have a marketing plan, you might end up spending money on marketing efforts that aren't really necessary or effective.
3. You might not get what you really need
If you go shopping without a list, you might end up buying things that you don't need (hello there that nine-pack of Salted Caramel Twix bars...). Similarly, if you don't have a marketing plan, you might end up investing in marketing efforts that aren't really effective or aligned with your overall business goals.
4. You might not be able to measure your success
If you go shopping without a list, you might not be able to measure your 'success' in that you won't be able to compare what you actually bought to what you intended to buy. Similarly, if you don't have a marketing plan, you won't be able to measure the success of your marketing efforts or compare them to your intended goals.
5. You might waste time and resources
Without a list, you might waste valuable effort trying to find what you need or trying to figure out what you should buy. Similarly, if you don't have a marketing plan, you might waste time and resources on marketing efforts that aren't really effective or necessary.
In conclusion, just like with shopping, having a plan is important when it comes to marketing your business. It will help you stay on track, avoid unnecessary expenses, and ensure that you are investing your time and resources into the right marketing efforts.
