Google Analytics Is Changing - Action Needs To Be Taken By 1st July 2023

What’s happening?

Google Analytics is one of the most popular tools companies use to measure website traffic, user behaviour, and conversion rates.

Recently, Google has launched a new version of Analytics called Google Analytics 4 (GA4), designed to provide deeper insights into user behaviour and help businesses make informed decisions.

This new version of Google Analytics will kick-in automatically on 1st July 2023 and will create a default setting based on what it thinks you need.

Historical data will be automatically migrated into GA4 but from 1st July will only be able to be viewed within the new format that Google has created.

Therefore if you have historic data that you're keen to refer to and to be able to fully understand moving forward, it's super-helpful to create a similar structure in GA4, in-line with how your existing data is structured, in order that no data is lost, or made harder to find, as the migration occurs.

Google has made it clear that once GA4 is live there's no turning back - they're doing this across the world and with millions of accounts so they're urging users to make the move in good time and to ensure that all existing data / structure is aligned with the new set-up.

The bad news: this is complicated stuff and Google is notorious for making things more difficult than they need to be. Their customer service is also non-existent across pretty much all of their products.

The good news: we have highly-trained Google experts in our team and we've already successfully migrated around 50 client accounts across to GA4 without any issues.
